Ever wondered who the biggest bitcoin owners in the world are? So have we – therefore we did all the hard the research to try and find out who holds the most bitcoin across the world. Here is our list of the biggest Bitcoin whales today:
1. Satoshi Nakamoto
Various reports have attempted to estimate the number of Bitcoins held by Satoshi Nakamoto. Satoshi Nakamoto is the father of Bitcoin, its founder. Reports estimate his holdings to be somewhere in the region of 600,000 to 980,000 Bitcoins. Which is between 3.38% and 5.53% of all coins in circulation today (2019). Who Satoshi really is, if he or she is even alive anymore, or whether or not the Bitcoins valued between $6,480,000,000 – $10,584,000,000 (at $10,800 per coin) can ever be accessed again, is anyone’s guess. Although many agree that the coins are dead in the water.
Estimated Bitcoin Networth: $6,480,000,000 – $10,584,000,000
at $10,800 per Bitcoin (July 2019)
2. The Bulgarian Government
The Bulgarian government is quite possibly the biggest HODLER in the world. They hold an estimated 213,000 Bitcoins or 1.20% of all Bitcoins in existence. Worth a staggering $2.3 Billion at $10,800 per coin. The Bulgarian government came in possession of the Bitcoin stash when they took down an unknown criminal organization.
Estimated Bitcoin Networth: $2.3 Billion
at $10,800 per coin (July 2019)
3. The Winklevoss Twins
The Winklevoss twins are perhaps best known for their lawsuit against Facebook’s founder Mark Zuckerberg in 2004, for allegedly having stolen their idea for the social media platform.
Fast forward 9 years to 2013, the Winklevoss then invested $11 million of their $65 million settlement, on buying up Bitcoins, amassing themselves a “nearly” 1% of all Bitcoins in circulation in the world. With 11 million Bitcoin in circulation at the time, The Winklevoss would have bought close to 100,000 Bitcoins – cementing themselves as the ultimate Bitcoin whales.
Their initial $11 Million investment, is now worth over $1 Billion (at $10,800 per Bitcoin – as of July 2019). There are not many other options that we can think of that gives you an 8990% return on investment in just 6 years.
We expect the Winklevoss twins to have accumulated many more Bitcoins since, as they are serial entrepreneurs, running one of the biggest Bitcoin exchanges in the world today: Gemini.
What we wouldn’t give to go back in time and buy Bitcoin at just a few dollars apiece, just like these twins.
Estimated Bitcoin Net Worth: $1 Billion
at $10,800 per Bitcoin (July 2019).
4. Barry Silbert
It is difficult to estimate exactly how many Bitcoins Barry Silbert holds today, but it is well known that Barry was one of the biggest buyers of the 144,336 Bitcoins held by FBI (at an average price of $334), after seizing all assets from the Silkroad platform. Barry is also the CEO and founder of the Digital Currency Group that owns the asset management company Grayscale, which reportedly manages holdings of more than 200,000 Bitcoins or at least 1.13% of the total Bitcoin circulating supply today.
Estimated Bitcoin Net Worth: $486 Million+
at $10,800 per Bitcoin (July 2019).
5. Tim Draper
Tim is a well known Bitcoin bull, forecasting massive future gains for Bitcoin, predicting Bitcoin to reach an evaluation of $250,000 by 2023 and capturing 5% of the earth’s market share. Mr. Draper bought 30,000 Bitcoins in 2014 from the FBI auction of seized assets from the now-defunct Silkroad platform. He bought the Bitcoins as he was expecting the price to reach $10,000 within 3 years – and wouldn’t you have it, three years later his $334 investment per Bitcoin reached his forecast. The serial entrepreneur Tim Draper is still heavily invested in Bitcoin and has become somewhat of an authority figure on the subject.
Estimated Bitcoin Net Worth: $324 Million at $10,800 per Bitcoin (July 2019).
